Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Galaxy Mini 2 Details Released

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Galaxy Mini 2 Details Released

As the Mobile World Congress event at the end of February draws closer, details of more soon-to-be-released phones are popping up. Today we have information about two new devices from Samsung, the Galaxy Mini 2 smartphone and the Galaxy Tab 2 tablet.

The Galaxy Mini 2 S6500’s specs are a bit better than the Mini S5570 it replaces, although it’s still a relatively underpowered phone. It contains an 800MHz processor, 3.3” screen, a 3MP camera and 3GB of storage. Disappointingly, it will run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), a fairly outdated version of the mobile OS. A release date and price weren’t specified, but rumors point to a launch this month.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 is billed as an updated version of the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy 7.0 Plus, and includes a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, front and rear-facing cameras, and options for 8GB, 16GB or 32GB of storage with a microSD slot for up to 32GB of add-on storage space. The screen is a 7.0” 1024×600 PLS (plane-to-line-switching) LCD display, and the new tablet will run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The Galaxy Tab 2 appears to offer a decent spec bump over the original Tab and Galaxy 7.0 Plus, but it might not be a great value at its price point—leaked pricing information puts the WiFi-only version at $450 and the WiFi+3G version over $500. In a market crowded with cheaper options such as the $199 Kindle Fire by Amazon, Samsung may have a difficult time moving the Tab 2 off shelves and into customers’ hands.

The Galaxy Tab 2 is scheduled for release sometime in March.

Samsung Rumor Roundup: Galaxy, Nexus, Tablet Updates

Samsung Rumor Roundup: Galaxy, Nexus, Tablet Updates

Although Samsung has chosen to hold off on unveiling the Galaxy S III at the Mobile World Congress event this month, it looks like there may be some exciting news from the mobile phone giant after all. Here’s what we think might be happening:

Galaxy Nexus: The popular Galaxy Nexus might be receiving a slight upgrade. Rumors include a CPU bump to 1.5GHz (from 1.2GHz in the current model) and an increase in camera resolution to 8MP.

Galaxy S II Plus: The Galaxy S II may also get some attention in the form of a faster and slightly improved version known as the Galaxy S II Plus. It’s rumored to have a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and a 4.5” Super AMOLED Plus display, in contrast to the Galaxy S II’s dual-core 1GHz CPU and 4.3” screen.

Tablets: Reports have surfaced that two as-of-yet unannounced Samsung tablets have recently received Wi-Fi certification. One of these may also include a quad-core CPU, which would certainly be a step up for a mobile device.

These updates sound intriguing, although they are of course rumors and are wholly unsubstantiated by Samsung. The next few months could prove to be interesting for the company, especially with the recent news of Apple losing their bid to ban the Galaxy Tab 10.1N and Galaxy Nexus in Germany. We’ll definitely be watching Samsung’s presentation at the Mobile World Congress event later this month closely.
