North Korea on Friday accused the CIA and South Korea of plotting to assassinate its leader, Kim Jong-Un.

A spokesperson for North Korea's Ministry of State Security said that his country recently uncovered a "hideous terrorist group" that the National Intelligence Service of South Korea, alongside the CIA, had dispatched to the North to kill President Kim.

According to the spokesperson, the alleged assassins plan to kill Kim with biochemical agents.

In the statement carried by Pyongyang's official news agency, KCNA, the unnamed spokesman said South Korea had hired a North Korean logger working in the Russian Far East, in 2014 to carry out "state-sponsored" terrorism.

Officers at the National Intelligence Service allegedly trained the man and equipped him with a satellite transmitter-receiver.

According to the spokesperson, South Korea then infiltrated the "human scum" into North Korea, with instructions last year on how to assassinate Mr. Kim.

The statement went on to claim that the would-be assassin planned to launch a bombing attack at a military parade attended by Kim.

The South Korean spy agency provided the man with additional funds to hire co-conspirators.

"Korean-style antiterrorist attack will be commenced from this moment to sweep away the intelligence and plot-breeding organizations of the U.S imperialists and the upper clique," the statement added.

The National Intelligence Agency dismissed the claims, terming them groundless.

Pyongyang's claim came amid a growing movement in the United States Congress to have the secretive state returned to the State Department's list of designated terrorism sponsors.

North Korea was removed in 2008 from the list as part of efforts to get it to dismantle its nuclear weapons program.
